David Wilczynski and Ena Shibahara named Pac-12 Players of the Week

Stanford Cardinal junior David Wilczynski and UCLA freshman Ena Shibahara are the Pac-12 Players of the Week, the first award of this kind for David and the second for Ena. Wilczynski posted 3 singles wins over the ranked teams, starting with Bjorn Hoffman from California, who fell 6-2 6-1 in a very tight match that Stanford picked by 4-3.

Leonardo Telles from Texas was beaten by 6-4 6-3 and David was the one who clinched the overall win for his team, for the 6th time in his career. Reese Stalder from TCU was also no match for Wilczynski, who defeated him 6-1 6-1 to round up a perfect weekend for himself and the Cardinal squad.

Wilczynski reached the number of 50 singles wins for Stanford and he is the first Cardinal who grabbed this honor since 2015. Shibahara was the Pac-12 Player of the Week on February 6 and she repeated that this week, after two singles wins over ranked opponents.

Frist, she took down Taylor Davidson of Stanford by 3-6 6-4 6-0, playing better and better as the match progressed, followed by another hard-fought triumph over 9th-ranked Karla Popovic from California by 4-6 6-4 6-3, again losing the opener.

This was the 18th honor for UCLA and the third of this season. SOURCE: Pac-12 announces the women's tennis player of the week ALSO READ: AJ Catanzariti and Shannon Hudson are SEC Players of the Week
