PRAGUE -- Defending Champions Czech Republic will start as the favorites for their Davis Cup semifinal tie against Argentina, who will step in without their top-player Juan Martin Del Potro this weekend.
Czech' Davis Cup team mainly comprises of world number 5 Tomas Berdych and 61st-ranked Radek Stepanek. Besides, Lukas Rosol and Jiri Vesely are the other Czech players in the squad. However, the two are improbable to feature if Berdych and Stepanek remain in shape.
"I'm 100 percent fit and ready to play all three days," said Stepanek, who lately triumphed at the U.S. Open 2013 along with Indian ace Leander Paes. "We're the favorite. We play at home; we play on the surface which we like.
We have our home crowd, which helps us a lot and we have the strongest team possible. For us, the goal is to make three points," Berdych stated. The Argentine side will be led by 30th-ranked Juan Monaco, in absence of world number 7 Juan Martin Del Potro.
"We have chances for sure," said Martin Jaite, the captain of Argentine Davis Cup team. "Davis Cup is always difficult competition. We've come here to win. So we're working very hard to try to beat the Czechs and go to the finals." Besides Monaco, the other Argentine players include Carlos Berlocq, Horacio Zeballos and Leonardo Mayer.
