Serbian Davis Cup Team Captain Nenad Zimonjic admits that the United States are the favorites to beat his side and reach the World Group quarter-finals but remains hopeful that his team still could pull off a big surprise.
Zimonjic picked Dusan Lajovic, Laslo Djere, Nikola Milojevic, Pedja Krstin and Miljan Zekic for the tie as the hosts are weakened by the absence of 12-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, as well as veterans Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic.
The United States Captain Jim Courier had no problems of that nature as he selected Sam Querrey, John Isner, Ryan Harrison and Steve Johnson to represent the country on the clay of Nis. Home-favorite Djere will be making his debut when he clashes against Querrey in the opening rubber of the tie -- which will be followed by a Lajovic versus Isner match.
“The Americans are the odds-on favorites but I am confident that we have enough quality in our ranks to upset them,” Zimonjic said. “We can be hopeful because Dusan and Laslo have had very good results on red clay in the past few years, so with the passionate home crowd support in a full house we may be able to defy the odds.” “Either way it should be a memorable experience for the boys while the fans can look forward to some fascinating tennis throughout the weekend.” Also read: Captain Lleyton Hewitt happy as Nick Kyrgios enjoys playing in Brisbane
