Rising Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime is extremely excited about making his Davis Cup debut this week against Slovakia. Slovakia are set to host Canada in a Davis Cup qualifying round tie on an indoor-clay surface in Bratislava.
Canadian Davis Cup Team Captain Frank Dancevic nominated himself, Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov and Peter Polansky for the tie. On the other side, Slovakian Davis Cup Team Captain Dominik Hrbaty nominated for the tie Martin Klizan, Filip Horansky, Norbert Gombos, Igor Zelenay and Filip Polasek.
18-year-old Auger-Aliassime will make his Davis Cup when he steps on the court to play against six-time ATP champion Martin Klizan in the second rubber of the tie. "Il'l remember this weekend for a long time. To be here is a privilege and to step on the court this weekend will be a huge honour.
I always wanted to play for my country," Auger-Aliassime said, per the Davis Cup website. "I remember when Denis and I were part of the team that won Junior Davis Cup, we had messages of congratulations from Milos and Vasek and we both said it'd be great one day to be leading the team in Davis Cup.
That dream has become a reality and it’s great to have a friend in Denis alongside me this weekend." Auger-Aliassime has been also nominated to play the doubles tie against Shapovalov, before he meets Horansky in reverse singles.
