Davis Cup - Germany appoints new Davis Cup captain

Germany has a new Davis Cup captin - relatively unknown Carsten Arriens. Previous captain Patrik Kuehnen quit late last month. Arriens peaked at no. 109 in the rankings in 1993. "With this quick decision Carsten Arriens will get the necessary time to prepare for his new task and the match against Argentina," said DTB Vice President and former pro Carl-Uwe Steeb.

Germany last won the Davis Cup nearly two decades ago. While the German women have seen a revival in recent years with the emergence of Julia Georges, Sabine Lisicki, Mona Barthel and Angelique Kerber. But the men have struggled with only Phillip Kohlschriebber.
