Davis Cup - Kazakhs and Japanese take a 2-0 lead

Kazakhstan and Japan have both taken a 2-0 lead over their opponents in Davis Cup regional playoff ties. In the Europe regional group play off, Andrey Golubev and Evgeny Korolev won their singles matches Friday to give the Kazakhs a 2-0 lead over Austria.

Golubev beat Andreas Haider-Maurer 7-6 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the first match, while Korolev followed with an upset win over former top 10 player Jurgen Melzer 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2. In the Asia Oceanis group 1 tie, Japan took a 2-0 lead over Indonesia.

Japan's Go Soeda beat Wisnu Adi Nugroho 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 and Tatsuma Ito beat Indonesia's number one Christopher Rungkat 6-2, 6-2, 6-4. Ito commented, "If I was two or three years younger, it would have been a closer match.

I've learnt from my experience playing in Grand Slams and on the national team, which enabled me to play my usual game in a situation like this. I was able to control the match as I wanted." .
