United States Davis Cup Team Captain Mardy Fish sees a lot of potential in the new generation of American players as he thinks the new group of guys could bring the country multiple Davis Cup titles. For this week's Davis Cup qualifying round tie against Uzbekistan, Fish selected the Bryan brothers -- who are playing their last Davis Cup tie -- and rising stars Taylor Fritz, Reilly Opelka and Tommy Paul.
Opelka, ranked at No. 38 in the world, beat Denis Istomin 6-2 7-5 in the opening rubber of the tie, before world No. 24 Fritz demolished Sanjar Fayziev 6-1 6-2 to give the United States a comfortable 2-0 lead after the opening day.
"It's fun to sort of be alongside watching them build something. I think they can win this competition multiple times and there is no doubt in my mind that they're going to get over the top at some point, and hopefully soon," Fish said, per US Davis Cup Fans.
The United States, a record 32-time Davis Cup champion, haven't made it all the way in the competition since 2007.
