Davis Cup - Somdev Devvarman and Mahesh Bhupathi lash out at AITA

Somdev Devvarman, India's most successful singles player in nearly two decades in the men's game, had made himself avaiable for the April Davis Cup tie but the Indian is still not happy with the AITA. The AITA has retained SP Mishra as the non-playing captain after earlier announcing that the February tie would be his last.

Devvarman commented, "I don't have a problem with him (Misra) personally. We have all given our opinion on what we thought about him as captain. We were given to understand that the tie against South Korea (in February) would be his last tie as captain.

I thought that was his farewell tie, but it looks more like a farewell year. I want to make it clear here that I'm voicing my disappointment with AITA and not the captain, as it's not his decision." Mahesh Bhupathi, one of the 11 Indian players who did not make themselves available for the February tie against Korea, commented, "We made ourselves available in good faith after they painted a rosy picture.

Not surprisingly they've backtracked. However, if AITA thinks this is going to be the end of it, they're smoking some good crack" Bhupathi was not selected for the tie but said he will still be in Bangalore, "I'm going to be there supporting the team and making sure what changes we set out to make in Indian tennis will happen. This is not over. AITA has won the battle but this is going to be a long war."
