ATP 250 tournament in Chengdu was held for the first time in 2016 (replacing Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur ), as a part of the 3-week Chinese swing, together with Shenzhen, Beijing, and Shanghai, and it is staged at the Sichuan International Tennis Center.
This modern complex has a stadium with 6000 seats and two additional courts with the capacity of 2000 each, and there are 32 courts in total. Karen Khachanov won his maiden ATP crown here 12 months ago and he will be there to defend his title, together with some other good players.
Dominic Thiem is the top seed, seeking his first ATP title since February, and he will face Guido Pella or Borna Coric in the second round. Viktor Troicki, Nikoloz Basilashvili and Di Wu are the remaining players in the first quarter, and we should expect to see Thiem in the semis.
Andrey Rublev is the 4th seed and he leads the second quarter, having a chance to miss the opening round match for the first time in his career. Yen-Hsun Lu and Mikael Ymer will fight for the place in the second round and the match against the Russian, while Marcos Baghdatis, Vasek Pospisil, Leonardo Mayer and Peter Gojowczyk are the other contenders for the place in the last 4.
Kyle Edmund faces Bernard Tomic in the opening round and the winner should meet Jared Donaldson in round 2. Karen Khachanov opens his campaign against Denis Istomin or Jan-Lennard Struff, who both had a good run in Metz this week.
The bottom half looks to be the weakest one, with Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Yuichi Sugita as the seeding players. Dusan Lajovic and Thiago Monteiro will try to spoil their party, together with the biggest Chinese prospect Yibing Wu, who will make his ATP debut. Full draw:
