US Open 2021 preview: Novak Djokovic can write history

No turn of words: Novak Djokovic is the great favorite for the final victory at the US Open 2021, Grand Slam in which the Serbian champion will be able to potentially rewrite the history of tennis, right on the Flushing Meadows hard-courts, in front of the crowd and without the presence of his hated Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Nole is seven wins away from the Grand Slam. Seven wins from a feat that was only successful for Don Budge, Rod Laver, Margaret Court, Steffi Graff and Maureen Connoly. In New York, Djokovic will see it in the first round with a qualifier and in the second with the winner of the match between Jan-Lennard Struff and Timo Grieskpoor.
In its eventual path towards the final, the world would not have a hypothetical third round with one between David Goffin and Kei Nishikori, in the fourth round there could be Alex de Minaur.

In the quarterfinals, Nole could find Matteo Berrettini, recent finalist at the Championships. Djokovic could therefore face the semifinals with Alexander Zverev, fresh from Olympic gold and also from the success in the Western & Southern Open.

What hopes for everyone else? Zverev could be one of the suspects to counter Nole, who has, however, as the only real obstacle, the pressure of the event of history, which will weigh on him like boulders. Nole is a magician at managing emotions and pressures, but in Tokyo, for example, fatigue and pressure put him in trouble.

In New York, however, he will be fresh, rested and motivated. A not indifferent astral conjunction will be needed to prevent him from winning the title. In the final, therefore in the bottom-half of the draw, Djokovic could eventually find Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev or Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals.

The Greek will challenge the still recovering Andy Murray in the first round. Among them, Medvedev will perhaps be the real protagonist, and perhaps the only tennis player able to stop Nole from an extraordinary goal. Matteo Berrettini, always excellent on hard-courts, is going through a period of not optimal form after the Wimbledon final.
