Even after his death, among the many memories that remain of the late Matthew Perry, his love for tennis remains. On October 28, 2023, the Friends sitcom star was found dead in the tub of his home in Los Angeles. That same morning he played a game of pickleball, then sent his assistant out to run errands.

The latter, upon his return, no longer being able to contact the actor, raised the alarm. The autopsy ruled out death by drowning, as no water was found in the lungs, and an overdose of fentanyl and methamphetamine, but did not clarify the causes of death, therefore further investigations and toxicological tests were ordered, although the police did not had found drugs in his home.

Following his passing, there were numerous messages of condolence from various personalities from the world of entertainment and beyond, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with whom Perry was a great friend.

During a concert in Melbourne, singer Charlie Puth sang I'll Be There For You, the theme song for Friends, in memory of the late actor. The funeral, celebrated strictly in private, attended only by relatives and close friends, including the cast of Friends, were held on November 3, 2023 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in front of the Warner Bros.

During his young life, Matthew practiced tennis, becoming a top-ranked junior player in Canada with the possibility of a tennis career. He often trained for 10 hours per day, but at age 15, he moved from Ottawa to live with his father in Los Angeles, where competition was tougher.

Matthew Perry's connection with tennis dates back to childhood, when he began playing at an amateur level. As his television career took off, he continued to cultivate his passion for tennis, becoming a frequent participant in charity tournaments and an active member of the tennis community.

Even during the national Friends Tour, a series of charity matches between the cast of the sitcom, Perry never missed an opportunity to demonstrate his skills on the tennis court.

Perry was also known for being a great supporter of professional tennis. He used to attend tennis Tour events, such as Grand Slam events, as a passionate spectator, cheering on his favorite players and sharing his passion with fans and colleagues.

His presence at the matches did not go unnoticed, with fans rushing to take photos and exchange a few words with the famous actor.
