Grand Slams bring added pressure on top players as all eyes are on them and tennis fans from around the world expect them to fare well but sometimes even best of the best fall at the first hurdle. Two major upsets took place on Day One of the US Open yesterday.

Fourth seed and last year’s finalist Kei Nishikori lost in a five set thriller and on the women’s side former world number one Ana Ivanovic also went down in the deciding set. We have compiled a list of 10 of the biggest first round upsets in the history of US Open.

10. Andre Agassi in 1991 Previous year’s runner-up and eighth seed in 1991, Andre Agassi was upset by his 47th ranked compatriot Aaron Krickstein in the first round of US Open. Agassi was world number seven at that time and had lost the final to Pete Sampras in 1990.

However, he could not bear the sweltering heat that day and lost in straight sets 5-7, 6-7, 2-6. Agassi hit a horrible 55 unforced errors and six double faults in that match.
