10. Yevgeny Kafelnikov beat Gaston Gaudio in 2002 Semi-final Russia was leading 1-0 when two-time Grand Slam champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov took on Gaston Gaudio in the second rubber of Russia versus Argentina Davis Cup semi-finals in 2002.
Backed by the home crowds support, Kafelnikov claimed victory after a five set thriller 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 2-6, 8-6. Russia went on to win the tie as Kafelnikov and Safin won a marathon doubles next day and then Safin sealed the tie after a four set win over Nalbandian. Russian went on to beat France in the final and got crowned as the champion in 2002.
