They played each other for the 34th time in Basel final last week which was their first meeting in 21 months. Federer won the contest after a three set thriller and reduced his deficit against Nadal in their head to head record to 11-23.

In their first ever meeting exactly a year earlier, 17-year-old Nadal had stunned Federer in straight sets in the third round at the same tournament so this was a perfect chance for Federer to take his revenge.
Nadal took two sets to love lead and looked set to claim his second win over the world number one as he raced to a 4-1 lead but then the Wimbledon and US Open champion fought back to capture next three sets and won the match 2-6 6-7(4) 7-6(5) 6-3 6-1.
