Elina Svitolina showed up at the 2018 WTA Finals on tiptoes. Among the eight participants in the Singapore Masters, she was probably the real outsider, the tennis player who, her other seven rivals hoped to cross. It didn't work well for them.
Svitolina subverted the forecast and a season made of some ups and some downs, winning the WTA Finals which, so far, is the most important title obtained in her career. However, what is still missing from her amazing career is a Major title.
Her best result at a Major has been reaching three quarter-finals – at the 2015 and 2017 French Open, and 2018 Australian Open. She, who made solidity and continuity in performances and results her winning weapon, could no longer obtain good placings.
Despite this, came the qualification in Singapore and then the victory. For 2019, her goal will be simple: to reach at least a semi-final or a final in a Grand Slam tournament. For technical features, the French Open and the US Open could be tournaments in which she could get the best results.
If with continuity, regularity and solidity of her performances, she could also combine determination and mental strength, then a victory in a Major could be more than possible. ALSO READ: German tennis on a high since Steffi Graf's time
