The Parisian lights go out on the Roland Garros 2019, with the twelfth triumph of Rafael Nadal on the Court Philipper Chatrier, which again beats Dominic Thiem in the final. Apart from the second set, Rafa easily won his third consecutive title on the clay-courts of Bois de Boulogne, demonstrating an embarrassing superiority for all his rivals and going even further than a tennis player can go.
It will be practically impossible for anyone to repeat what the Spaniard has done at the Roland Garros. In the women's double, Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Babos triumphed, after winning against Chinese doubles Zheng / Duan in two sets.
In the men's double, Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies won the title against Fabrice Martin and Jeremy Chardy. Guy Forget is a fan of Stefano Tsitsipas. Here are his interesting statements about the Greek player: "He is a very nice player to watch in action.
He has a classic style, a bit like Roger Federer: one-handed backhand, great service, aggressive attitude. However, Tsitsipas has yet to improve a lot, but I'm sure it will be even stronger in two years." The men's singles at the French Open 2019 showed how much difference there is between Nadal, Djokovic and Federer and all the young players of Next Gen.
Unlike what is happening on the WTA Tour, it is impossible to predict a future victory for a Next Gen in a Slam tournament. Zverev, Tsitsipas & Co. will do it, but the road, for them, still seems very long and tortuous, at least as long as there are these brilliant over-thirty, and some representatives of the Middle Gen like Thiem to challenge them.
The 2019 grass-season is about to start, and, as aalways, it will reach its peak in the two weeks of Wimbledon, in July. The come back on the court of Andy Murray, Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, Serena Williams and of the young rampant of WTA Tour; an incredible month awaits us!
