The 142th edition of Wimbledon will host on the grass courts of the All England Club all the greatest tennis players on the planet, for a fortnight that will give us excitement and show. Church Road will be crowded with fans, media and insiders, in the most important event of the tennis year, with the magnificent London background as a set for one of the most glamorous sporting events of the season.
Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Marin Cilic, Kevin Anderson, Stan Wawrinka, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Kei Nishikori and Grigor Dimitrov are ready to battle for the title. Andy Murray, with Pierre-Hugues Herbert, will play in the men's doubles, after winning at Queen's with Feliciano Lopez.
Among women, the new world no. 1 Ashleigh Barty will face all her rivals: Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Venus Williams, Angelique Kerber, Petra Kvitova, Elina Svitolina, Garbine Muguruza, Caroline Wozniacki and the youngsters Amanda Anisimova, Sofia Kenin, Dayana Yastremska, Marketa Vondrousova and Iga Swiatek.
Among the most important innovations of this edition, the inclusion of the super tie-break on the fifth set, starting from a score of 12-12. Furthermore, the Court No.1 will have a retractable roof for indoor matches in case of rain.
In addition, other portions and courts of the All England Club have been improved and expanded. Two ATP Challengers will be played this week: the Ludwigshafen Challenger (in Ludwigshafen, Germany, Challenger 80 on clay-courts) and the Guzzini Challenger (in Recanati, Italy, Challenger 80 on hard-courts). From July 8th, the WTA 125K Swedish Open will also be played (in Bastad, Sweden, on clay-courts).
