The 34th week of tennis will be the prelude to the US Open, the fourth and last seasonal Slam that will be played in Flushing Meadows, New York. In these seven days the protagonists will play two tournaments: an ATP event and a new WTA event, both of them in the USA, in what will be the last starter before the main course, in New York.
In these last days in preparation for the Grand Slam tournament, players will have to see what is their psycho-physical level for the New York fortnight. Men will play the 51st edition of the Winston-Salem Open (USA, ATP 250 played on hard-courts).
The organizers granted the wild cards to Andy Murray, Tomas Berdych, Kevin Anderson and Frances Tiafoe. With them there will also be Pablo Carreno-Busta, Andreas Seppi, Casper Ruud and Feliciano Lopez. Women will play the first edition of the Bronx Open, in New York (USA, WTA International played on hard-courts).
This is the first time for this event on the annual schedule of the WTA Tour. The stars of the new women's tournament will be Petra Kvitova, Coco Vandeweghe, Johanna Konta, Qiang Wang, Anett Kontaveit, Julia Putintseva and Katenira Siniakova.
This week there will also be three Challenger tournaments: the International Challenger Baotou (China, played on indoor clay-courts), the City of Como Challenger (Italy, played on clay courts) and the Rafa Nadal Open Banc Sabadell (Spain, played on hard-courts). There will be no WTA 125K; the next in schedule will be the Oracle Challenger Series - New Haven, on 2019 September 2nd.
