US Open day 4 recap: Halep and Kvitova shocked, Nadal doesn't need to play

After the rain all the champions are ready to resume the US Open 2019 matches. Nadal takes advantage of Kokkinakis' walkover to reach the third round. With him also Alexander Zverev, Stan Wawrinka, Daniil Medvedev, Marin Cilic and Nick Kyrgios won their challenges.

Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova instead were sensationally eliminated, despite they were considered two of the favourites on the eve of the tournament. Cori Gauff wins again and she qualifies for the third round, along with Naomi Osaka, Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Martic, Dayana Yastremska, Bianca Andreescu and Johanna Konta.
Sloane Stephens has snatched Monica Puig's coach!

Kamau Murray had already trained the American during the triumphant US Open 2017. Here is what Puig said about the situation: "When I Knew he was already working with another player I had just arrived in New York. It is not nice to discover such a thing on the eve of an important tournament".

"I thought of withdrawing. I wasn't sure if I would finish the match because I felt pain just at the beginning". These are the words of Novak Djokovic after the victory against Juan Ignacio Londero about the problems with his right arm.

Will the defending champion be able to recover for the third round? Andy Murray's campaign at the Rafa Nadal Open in Mallorca was resoundingly interrupted after the three-set defeat against the Italian Matteo Viola. The Scot is still running, and his decision to not play in New York can be considered wise.

Today the third round matches: Federer, Djokovic, Serena Williams, Elina Svitolina and Johanna Konta will take the court.
