Rafael Nadal was the last one, but now the Spaniard is married to his girlfriend of many years, Maria Francisca Xisca Perello. Will something change in Rafa's professional life after marriage? Something will change, but the Spaniard's routine will probably remain more or less the same.
At least until Nadal pursues his final professional goal: to overcome the twenty Slams won by Roger Federer. The Swiss was the first to marry, in April 2009, with Miroslava Mirka Vavrinec. A few weeks later, Roger won his first and only French Open, completing the career Grand Slam, and in July that year, he triumphed at Wimbledon, reaching and overcoming the fourteen Majors of Pete Sampras.
Just a case? Novak Djokovic married Jelena Ristić in July 2014. In the following year-and-a-half, Nole dominated the ATP Tour, winning five Slams and completed the non-calendar Grand Slam. One more case? Andy Murray married his girlfriend Kim Sears in April 2015.
It took him some time but a year later, in 2016, the Scot lived the best season of his amazing career, coming back to win at Wimbledon (his third Slam title), winning the ATP Finals and getting the throne of men's tennis for the first time in career.
Was it still a case? Nadal got married after a crazy season: he has won two Slams this year, he is within sights of becoming the world no. 1 again in November and he will compete at the ATP Finals. Next year, he could exceed Federer's record. No, all these things cannot be just a coincidence!
