Madness and dramas on a court: from John McEnroe to Serena Williams

"You can not be serious!" siad John McEnroe against the chair umpire at Wimbledon 1981, but that's just one of the drama-behaviors on a tennis courts, and because for generations, up to Nick Kyrgios and Serena Williams, there were controversial, borderline and unconscious episodes.

How we can forget David Nalbandian when he hit with a kick a line judge? For example, five years ago, in the 2015 Summer, Nick Kyrgios said to Stan Wawrinka: "Kokkinakis banged your girlfried!" The Swiss was in a sentimental relationship with Donna Vekic, who had been the partner of Thanasi Kokkinaki.

Definitely that was one of the worst moments of that season. John McEnroe shouted: "You can not be serious!" against the chair umpire at Wimbledon 1981. One of the funniest moments, but not for the umpire, of course.

An iconic moment in tennis, with controversial behavior. At Hamburg 2015 there was an incredible quarrel between Fabio Fognini and Rafael Nadal, with the Italian who clearly said to the Spaniard: "no me rompas los huevos!" in Spanish, which translated would be: "Do not p *** me o **!" At Wimbledon 1995, Jeff Tarango was the protagonist of one of the worst behaviors in tennis history: he shushing the crowd, then arguing with the umpire Bruno Rebeuh, amid the laughter and whistles of the crowd, said him "You are one of the most corrupt officials in the Game!"

Serena Williams' dramas, David Nalbandian madness

And how can we forget the US Open 2009 Serena Wlliams' drama? Serena was disqualified against Kim Clijsters over a foot fault.

The anger of the American, who abandoned the court, was against the line judge and the chair umpire. In June 2010 Stefan Koubek lost control against Daniel Koellerer: after an exultation of his rival, Stefan took Daniel by the neck!

And obviously he was disqualified. Not to be imitated. At the 2008 Miami Open, Mikhail Youzhny lost a point against Nicolas Almagro. Took by a moment of frustration, he hit his racket on his head, until drawing blood. This too, better not to imitate it ..

On the immaculate grass-court of the 2012 Queen's tournament, David Nalbandian hit with a kick a line judge. That was one of the worst episodes on a tennis court. The umpire immediately disqualified him. In the 2018 US Open final Serena Williams protested vibrantly against the chair umpire, pointing her finger at him.

That New York final had the American as negative protagonist: her reaction to the chair umpire, right or wrong it was, was certainly not worthy of a champion like her. Then of course there are so many others of bad behaviors on a tennis courts that I could write a book: these certainties, among which those of Nick Kyrgios, Serena Williams and John McEnroe remain the most iconic, funny and famous: but not from imitate.
