Why Novak Djokovic is better than Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. The Big Three in comparison: in this third article we will try to understand if and why the Serb is better than his two great rivals, while in the firsts two articles we talked about Federer and Nadal.

Djokovic is considered one of the greatest tennis players ever, especially thanks to his robotic game, his athletic endurance and his innate mental strength. There are reasons to believe that Nole is the best ever, even than Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

His detractors would say: "Federer and Nadal have won more Slams, Djokovic is still far from them." This is true on the one hand, but there are reasons to believe that he is the best ever. The first and most important factor: Novak Djokovic is head-to-head ahead of both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Against the Swiss Maestro he is on 27-23, showing a clear superiority in the Slams. In fact, Djokovic leads 11-6; he won the last four finals they played (Wimbledon 2014, Wimbledon and US Open 2015 and Wimbledon 2019). Against Federer, Nole leads on the grass and hard-courts challenges (3-1 and 20-18, respectively), while they are 4-4 on clay-courts.

Against Nadal, Djokovic leads the head-to-head 29-26. His superiority is clear in the total finals, where Nole leads 16-11. On hard-courts he leads 20-7, on clay-courts Nadal leads 17-7, while on grass they are on 2-2. Nadal leads the Slam challenges for 9-6.

Why Novak Djokovic is better than Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal

Talking about the Slams. Djokovic holds the record of titles won in the men's singles of the Australian Open (8). He is the only player of the Open era to have won three Australian Open consecutively (2011-2012-2013).

Djokovic, at 20 years-old and 250 days, is the youngest tennis player to have reached the semifinals in each of the four Majors. He won four consecutive Slams, from Wimbledon 2015 to Roland Garros 2016, becoming the first Open-era player to win four tournaments consecutively, though not all in the same calendar year.

With the victory against Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open 2019, he became the first tennis player in history to win at least three Slams in a row for three times. Djokovic is also the only tennis player in history to have reached the quarterfinals at the Roland Garros for 10 consecutive years.

His incredible success concerns the ATP Masters 1000. Nole is in fact the only player in history to have won all 9 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, becoming the first and still today the only player to have completed the Career Golden Masters.

He achieved this goal on 19 August 2018 by winning the Cincinnati tournament for the first time.
Nole was the first tennis player and is still the only player in history to have beaten Rafael Nadal in three ATP Masters 1000 finals on clay-courts: Madrid (2011), Rome (2011) and Monte Carlo (2013).

After winning the Roland Garros 2015 against Rafael Nadal, he became the only tennis player in history to have defeated Spaniard in all four Slam tournaments. He won a total of 17 Majors, behind Nadal (19) and Federer (20).
