Their Mortal Remains: Roger Federer, Nadal, Djokovic's 2020 legacy

2020 is perhaps the most particular season in the history of tennis, for all that has happened and for all that is happening, and the transcription of these events has necessarily included the Big Three Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

A series of sentences, indiscretions, contradictions, events, victories and defeats. The global pandemic has forced all the greatest players on the planet to remain locked up at home waiting for the storm to pass. Between videos on social media, media and shooting tennis with beneficial events, many things actually happened.

Novak Djokovic lived the first seven months of the year on a roller coaster. First the victory in the Australian Open 2020 in the final against Dominic Thiem, his 8th title in Melbourne and his 17 Major. A difficult victory, which came after being close to defeat, and topped with some controversy.

Then the lockdown, videos and messages on social media and some controversy regarding some disrespectful phrases of Nole's parents directed to Roger Federer. However, the real disaster came with the Adria Tour, an itinerant tournament in the Balkans, organized among others by Djokovic himself.

Zero social distancing, no respect for security protocols: Djokovic, his wife Jelena, Grigor Dimitrov, Viktor Troicki and Borna Coric infected with the virus, together with Goran Ivanisevic. Djokovic, overwhelmed by the harsh controversies, should however participate in the US Open.

What about Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer

Nadal, after the Match for Africa 6 and the lockdown, simply decided to retire to Mallorca, his home island. Li the Spaniard relaxed, fishing, spending time with his family and friends and relaxing, trying to maintain his usual routines.

Nadal, after the lockdowns, decided not to participate in any charity event, but to focus on his Academy and his physical fitness. His participation in the US Open, where he is defending champion, is strongly in doubt: Nadal should directly play the Autumn clay-swing in Europe, precisely at the Madrid Masters 1000 and Roland Garros.

Roger Federer suffered two surgeries on his right knee this year. After the semifinal lost at the Australian Open against Djokovic and the Match for Africa 6, the Swiss Maestro underwent the first surgery, hoping to return for the grass-swing and the Olympics.

meanwhile the Covid-19 pandemic canceled both Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympic Games. Federer decided to skip the whole season and return directly to the Australian Open 2021, to undergo a second surgery on his right knee and definitively solve all physical problems.

In the middle, he had to read all the nonsense that Novak Djokovic's parents said about him. These are their mortal remains: for now the most atypical season ever has given more disappointments and broken hopes than joys, to all the protagonists of the ATP Tour.

From August, however, the story will be able to start again on a blank page, hoping that there will be no others virus problems. Roger Federer, Rafael Ndaal and Novak Djokovic would like to write other records: will something change after these five months, or will everything always be the same?
