FED CUP - Amelie Mauresmo steps down as French team captain

Amelie Mauresmo steps down from the role of the French Fed Cup team captain. No issues with the federation, the reason is a good news: Amelie will become mother for the second time in April 2017. That's what she announced in the Roland Garros press room after the final lost to Czech Republic 3-2 in Strasbourg.

'I told the girl about it, this morning because I wanted them to focus only on the final and it was like a shock. I am sorry but I can't continue, with the calendar it's impossible', said Mauresmo, who gave birth in August for the first time in her life.

France will play the first round against Switzerland on the 11th and 12th of February, then eventually the semifinals against Belarus or Netherlands on 22-23 April. Surely it would have been amazing for Mauresmo to end with a title, they gave their best but did not manage to do it.

It could be Patrick Mouratoglou to replace Mauresmo. Serena Williams's coach confirmed it himself interviewed by France Info: 'It's true I am interested to it. I have a good relationship with the team, it's something you cannot refuses.

The only issue is the work with Serena Williams. I would ask her if she agrees with this choice.' ALSO READ: Pliskova: 'One of my best trophies'. Mauresmo: 'Cruel loss'
