Fed Cup Heart Award nominees announced!

Simona Halep, Anastasija Sevastova, Georgina Garcia-Perez and Ashleigh Barty have been nominated for the Fed Cup Heart Award with these players showcasing some amazing tennis during last months Fed Cup World Group II ties.

Other nominees include Johanna Konta and Natalia Vikhlyantseva from Europe/Africa, Carolina Meligeni Rodrigues Alves and Maria Camila Osorio Serrano from the Americas, and Zarina Diyas and Zhang Shuai from Asia/Oceania. Simona Halep played a pivotal role for Romania as the visitors handed hosts Czech Republic their first defeat at home since 2009 in Ostrava.

She won both her singles matches, helping Romania reach their first ever Fed Cup Semi-finals since the World Group format was introduced. Anastasija Sevastova was ruthless across two days of the Tie, exceling her opponents as Latvia dismantled Slovakia 4-0 in Riga and reach the World Group play-offs for the first time.

Georgina Garcia-Perez helped Spain beat Japan in their Tie with the Spaniard playing a part in all three points for Spain, winning both her singles matches and then coming out on top to win the doubles clash as well. Same thing happened with Australian Ash Barty, who stole the limelight for the visitors as they outplayed USA to reach the World Group semifinals for the first time since 2014.

Barty won all three matches she was a part of, winning both her singles matches and then pairing with Priscilla Hon to win give Australia the decisive point in doubles. Each winner will receive a cheque to be donated to a charity of their choice.
