Carlos Alcaraz can return to No.1 at Indian Wells: here's how

At Indian Wells 2023 there will come back the fight for the world no.1. A challenge mainly between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, with Stefanos Tsitsipas watching from afar but not too much. At the moment, the tennis player from Belgrade is number one in the world, but his absence at the two US Masters 1000 changes the fate of that position.

With the failure to return to the United States, the only thing the twenty-two times Grand Slam champion can do is watch and hope: hope that the young Grand Slam champion does not triumph. In fact, with the victory of Indian Wells, Carlos Alcaraz would once again occupy the top of the ranking.

The victory in Miami, on the other hand, would allow him to keep that position. A position that can be undermined by Stefanos Tsitsipas, who after the final at Melbourne Park may find himself fighting for that place again; a goal that, however, he can only achieve in Miami.

He needs a final and a final victory to make his debut as world number one.

Alcaraz as number one in the world

Alcaraz would come back to number one in the world after making his debut on September 12, 2022. It was the final of the US Open when the two finalists, the Spaniard and Casper Ruud, fought for the title and the top of the ranking.

It was precisely the Murciano who triumphed, becoming the youngest number one in the history of tennis and who received the double joy: ending the year as number one, despite retiring in Paris-Bercy and forfeiting the Atp Finals.

After 20 weeks, however, the winner of the last US Open had to give up the scepter. Thanks to two factors: his absence at the Australian Open, due to an injury sustained shortly before the start of the Grand Slam tournament; the victory of Novak Djokovic, who by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas took back the top of the ranking.

Position that has returned to the tennis player from Belgrade, after having lost it in favor of Daniil Medvedev. With the upcoming Indian Wells Masters, Carlos will have the chance to come back as no. 1.
