Novak Djokovic has reached the semifinals of the Western & Southern Open, after a big win against Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the ATP Cincinnati Masters. Thanks to this victory, the Serb got a big milestone: Nole is the second player, after Rafael Nadal, to reach his 76th semifinal at the ATP Masters 1000.
Djokovic is also the tennis player who has reached the most Masters level finals, 56, and who has won the most titles, 38. Nadal holds the record for semifinals obtained in this category of events, 40. It seems clear that Nole can equal or surpass Rafa, already this season, considering that there are still the ATP Masters 1000 to be played in Shanghai and in Paris.
Djokovic's words after beating Fritz in Cincinnati
After beating US Taylor Fritz in teh quarters of Cincinnati, Nole said: "Every match is a new match, we're talking about a new challenge for both of us. We had never faced each other here and it stands to reason that being America's number one he had the support of the crowd.
I got off to a great start, I played an almost perfect first set. Different situation in the second set where I got off to a bad start but under 4 to 2 I played great in the last four games and overall I can say it was a great performance.
Every day I'm raising the bar a little more, my level of tennis. This is what is happening during the tournament and I feel better and better when I'm on the pitch. I hope this situation will continue in the coming days as well." The long-distance duel between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz continues, also at the Western & Southern Open.
Thanks to the painful victory against Max Purcell, it was enough for the Spaniard to win the final at the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati to reach Flushing Meadows as world number one. The Serbian has only one possibility left: to win the tournament and, in fact, to hope that his direct rival loses in the semifinals.
