Iga Swiatek was eliminated from the WTA 500 in Tokyo by Veronika Kudermetova in the quarter-finals, but despite this she achieved a new record. The Polish former world no.1 is certainly not in the best period of her career but she remains one of the most talented and promising tennis players on the circuit.
But Iga can continue to work and try to do well, given the numerous tournaments won and the several weeks at the top of the WTA rankings.
The Polish tennis player is still very young but as mentioned, she collects records week after week.
After an extraordinary 2022, Iga was unable to repeat the year, she won Roland Garros but the only Slam where she triumphed and recently lost the first position in the ranking, which has now gone to the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
Iga achieved a new important record this week. Numbers which, at her very young age, demonstrate how good the young Polish girl is. This Monday Iga reached her 100th consecutive week in the Top-10, an impressive feat for a player of just 22 years of age.
Iga Swiatek gets a massive new record!
Iga entered the Top-10 for the first time on May 17, 2021 and has never left it since that day. She became number 1 on April 4, 2033 and remained in this ranking position for over a year, losing it only recently.
The tennis player lost first place in the round of 16 of the US Open where she failed to defend the title she won last year. In a recent interview Iga spoke about his long stay in first position: "The last year and a half has given me a lot of experience and made me understand how important it is for people to evaluate based on titles, the defense of points and the ranking.
This position puts a lot of pressure on you, and at times I have been surprised at how I have been thinking this way too. In reality, for me sport is a passage of great changes, we can win or lose, like in everyday life and it's quite simple."
