Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff are the most marketable tennis players of 2023, as reported by Sportpro.
In fact, the well-known portal has released a ranking regarding the 125 most marketable athletes of 2023, both for men and for women. The ranking in question is based on 3 crucial aspects: brand strength, addressable market and the economy.
In the last few hours, the world of tennis has discussed a lot about this curious ranking, numbers that see tennis still behind other sports. Leading the ranking is the seven-time Golden Ball winner Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi with a rating of 94.81, followed by the NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James with a score of 92.75 and the American soccer star Alex Morgan with a score of 92.32.
Novak Djokovic leads the ranking among tennis players
The first tennis player is the 24-time Slam champion Novak Djokovic located in position 11 of this ranking with a score of 87.96, followed in the men's field by the Spanish champion Rafael Nadal in position 41 with a rating of 73.42; Djokovic and Nadal are the only tennis players in sports to be in the top 50.
Outside the top 50 we find in succession: the 2-time Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz in position 54 with 70.40, the American tennis player Frances Tiafoe number 88 with a rating of 57.32, the Danish nex-tgen Holger Rune in position 95 with 53.71 and the Italian Jannik Sinner in position 97 with 52.93.
For the Italian tennis player a small setback and at least in this ranking he comes quite behind the top players on the circuit. Only Djokovic and Nadal are doing well among the men while the youngsters are still quite behind, and among these Sinner is also called upon to redeem himself.
Which of course would go hand in hand with the results. Just outside the top 100 are Russian Andrey Rublev (number 105) and Croatian Borna Coric (ranked at position 121).
As regards the WTA circuit, the situation is significantly better as there are six tennis players among the top 50 positions in this ranking. Leading is the American and US Open winner Coco Gauff in position 12, the number 1 in the WTA ranking Aryna Sabalenka located in position 18, the 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu at number 21, the Czech champion Petra Kvitova in position 43 and the Tunisian finalist this year at Wimbledon Ons Jabeur at position 50.
Outside the top 50 we find the Polish champion and WTA number 2 Iga Swiatek at position 58 and the French Caroline Garcia at position 85.
