The time has come for the Australian Open 2024, with the qualifiers for a place in the main draw starting. Among the experts and young promises, 128 tennis players are ready to obtain an important result to start the season well. Important names such as Diego Schwartzman, David Goffin, Pablo Cuevas and the Frenchmen Benoit Paire, Pierre Herbert and Hugo Gaston, alongside new talents on the Tour, such as the last two champions of the Next Gen Finals Brandon Nakashima and Hamad Medjedovic.

Whoever will not be in Mebourne will be Rafael Nadal, who will not play the Australian Open. The Spanish tennis player himself announced it through his social profiles. The message in a certain sense confirmed the concerns of the Majorcan champion in recent days in Brisbane, and in the end the decision came - in mutual agreement with his team - to give up the first Grand Slam of the season due to a micro tear in the muscle detected following more in-depth examinations.

"Hello everyone. During my last match in Brisbane I had a small problem with the muscle which as you know caused some concern. Once I arrived in Melbourne, I had the opportunity to have an MRI and I have a micro tear in the muscle; not in the same area as the previous injury, and that's good news. At this moment I am not ready to compete at the highest level in the best of five sets. So I decided to return to Spain to meet my doctor, get treatment and rest. I've worked hard to get back and my goal, as I've always said, is to reach my best level in 3 months. I really wanted to play in Australia and I had the chance to do so for a few matches which made me happy. Thank you all for the support," explained Rafa.

The women and men's wild-cards
