The BNP Paribas Open on the hard-courts of Indian Wells gave a very precise verdict: Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka will only be able to compete in the final. Iga Swiatek leads the draw and she is in the top-half with Elena Rybakina. Coco Gauff is in the bottom-half with Aryna Sabalenka. This is the outcome of the draw for the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells starting on Wednesday 6 March.

Jasmine Paolini, champion in Dubai, is in Elena Rybakina's zone and could face Anna Kalinskaya again in the third round, to whom she lost in Melbourne but whom she beat in the final in the United Arab Emirates.

The potential quarterfinals of the tournament would be Iga Swiatek vs Ons Jabeur, Elena Rybakina vs Marketa Vondrousova, Qinwen Zheng vs Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula vs Aryna Sabalenka.

The WTA No.1 Iga Swiatek could again play in the second round against Danielle Collins, as happened in Melbourne.

Also in the area is Camila Giorgi who has a very interesting first round against Katie Boulter, who won the WTA tournament in San Diego on Sunday. The draw also put Swiatek facing a possible third round against Noskova, who ousted her from the first slam of the season.

Ons Jabeur, seeded number 6, awaits the winner of the match between Mirra Andreeva and Volynets. Venus Williams returns with a wild card and awaits a qualifier.

Elena Rybakina will make her debut against the winner of the match between wild card Paula Badosa and Krueger. Here is Jasmine Paolini, who by virtue of her status as the number 13 seed has a bye in the first round, in the second round she will find the winner of the match between Rus and Maria while in the third round, as mentioned, there could be the third act in a few weeks of the challenge against Anna Kalinskaya. Haddad Maia and Vondrousova are also seeded in this area of the draw.

The bottom-half

The bottom-half is opened by Qinwen Zheng, seeded number 8, who could find Victoria Azarenka in the third round, but Sorana Cirstea and Daria Kasatkina are also in the area.

Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula are in the zone, in a bottom-half that also features Caroline Garcia, Maria Sakkari and Elina Svitolina. Emma Raducanu in the draw with a wild card awaits a qualifier and could then play against Dayana Yastremska.
