Philippe Chatrier: the restyling is complete with lights and roof!

There is now less than a month to go until the start of the Roland Garros, what will be the third Grand Slam of the year, postponed by more than 3 months due to the health emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Amid so many difficulties, safety protocols and new rules to guarantee the health of players and spectators, the organizers of the Paris Slam work every day to ensure that everything is ready and everything perfect for September 21st.

One of the most important novelties of the 2020 edition of the French Major will be the possibility of playing even when night falls. From this year in fact, the Philippe Chatrier field will be equipped with a lighting system that should guarantee the possibility for tennis players to play even when the natural light begins to decline, avoiding the annoying postponement of matches due to darkness to the next day.

Another improvement made to the most important structure of the French park that rises in the Boulogne-Billancourt area, will be the retractable roof, therefore retractable, which will allow the matches to continue even in the event of rain, which is no small thing if you think that in almost all editions of Roland Garross at least once have been forced to suspend a match on the central field due to the arrival of rain.

Photos of the Philippe Chatrier illuminated by artificial lights and the new roof

On Twitter, on the official page of Roland Garros, some photos were published taken while the tournament operators were doing a test on the artificial lights that will illuminate the matches right on Philippe Chatrier.

From the images you can see the positioning of the headlights that have been applied following the perimeter of the field on all four sides, with the intention of ensuring homogeneous brightness while avoiding the presence of less illuminated points.

Still on Twitter, images of the Chatrier covered by the new mobile roof were posted on the same page. A necessary intervention if you think that the Parisian tournament was the only one not to use this technology. The installation of the retractable roof represented the last step in the conclusion of a modernization project that involved the entire structure of the Philippe Chatrier: expansion up to 15,000 spectators, bringing it to 26 meters in height and 105 in length.
