Tennis: The 2014 French Open champion Maria Sharapova and the 2014 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova were stunned in the third round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

Maria Sharapova was ousted by the French Open Quarterfinalist Carla Suarez Navarro whereas Petra Kvitova lost to the Wimbledon Quarterfinalist Ekaterina Makarova.

Interestingly, Sharapova had beaten Eugenie Bouchard in the French Open semifinals, who was coming after beating Carla Suarez Navarro in the Quarterfinals and Kvitova had beaten Lucie Safarova in the Wimbledon semifinals, who was coming after beating Ekaterina Makarova in the Quarterfinals.

4th seed Maria Sharapova had beaten Suarez Navarro in straight sets in their only previous meeting, which was in Indian Wells in 2013. This time the Spaniard started on a high note and broke Sharapova twice to race to a 4-0 lead.

Sharapova got one break back in the 7th game but Suarez Navarro broke her again to win the first set 6-2. In the second set Suarez Navarro broke Sharapova in the second game and went 2-0. But there were 6 services broken in a row from second to the seventh game.

Both players broke eachother 3 times as Sharapova served at 3-4.
