Top seed Maria Sharapova races into the Quarterfinals in Acapulco

Tennis: Top seed Maria Sharapova is easily through to the Quarterfinals of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel WTA Tournament in Acapulco with a straight sets 6-1, 6-2 win over lucky loser Mariana Duque-Marino, whereas second seed Sara Errani was shocked in straight sets by Monica Puig. The World No.2 Sharapova was a little shaky on her serve in the first round match but in the first set of the second round, Sharapova was almost invincible on her serve.

She broke Duque-Marino twice to take the first set 6-1. The Russian dropped only 1 point in her four service games in the first set, winning 91% points on the first serve and 100% on the second serve. She also served 2 aces and no double faults in the first set.

In the second set Sharapova was not so good on her serve as she got only 50% first serves in, won 61% points on her first serve and 46% on her second serve. She was broken once but she broke the Colombian three times to take the second set 6-2 and go through to the last 8. The shocking result was the defeat of second seed Sara Errani against 21-year-old Monica Puig.

The 2012 French Open finalist was beaten in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Third seed Caroline Garcia eased past Bethanie Mattek-Sands in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
