WTA Cincinnati, hard-courts (13-20 August 2017) Almost all the best players are committed to play in Ohio just after Rogers Cup in Toronto. Among the top 43 players, only the new mom to be Serena Williams, Timea Bacsinszky who has been suffering a left thigh injury and won't play Toronto neither, Shuai Zhang who plays Chinese National Games and Laura Siegemund who had a knee surgery in May, won't play.
Williams and Siegemund will come back to compete next year. Last year the new World No. 1 Karolina Pliskova defeated Angelique Kerber in the final. At the moment Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova are not committed to play. They could enter only getting a wild card, but both of them will already play in Stanford and Toronto and especially Maria, who had a left thigh injury, doesn't think that playing the third event in a row would be the best thing for her.
The World No. 43 Yulia Putintseva is the last player to enter directly in the main draw entry list, while the Czech Krystina Pliskova is the first alternate.
