The Upper Austria Ladies Linz will feature a nice player's field from 6 to 13 October. The organizers held a conference call on Wednesday and they announced that the defending champion Camila Giorgi and the 2017 champion Barbora Strycova will be back.

Earlier this year in Wimbledon Strycova reached her maiden Grand Slam semifinal losing to Serena Williams. "Women's tennis is extremely exciting now because on the top 15 everyone can be beaten", said the tournament ambassador and former player Barbara Schett, who is coming from the US Open.

Kristina Mladenovic will be back and the local player Barbara Haas will get a wild card invitation. The Tournament Director Sandra Reichel, who also runs the ATP Hamburg German Open, will bring in Maria Sharapova and possibly Cori Gauff due to the controversial situation in Hong Kong that hosts a WTA tournament during the same week.

Meanwhile Sam Groth spoke about Rafael Nadal playing the ATP Cup in Perth: “I really like Group D. Everyone is wanting to see Rafa but tennis fans who want to see some talent will like Group D." Premier Mark McGowan said: "Hopefully people will take a holiday around our state as part of that."
