Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli absolutely believes that world No. 1 Novak Djokovic should be considered as a big favorite for the US Open title. Djokovic has had a big year, winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.
Djokovic failed to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics but Bartoli believes he will overcome that and be fully ready for the US Open. “I would not understand if we do not place him as a big favourite," Batolid told Tennis Majors.
"For me he is the big favourite. It’s a little easier. He has a day off between each match, he has time to think about each victory, he has time to rest before the next game. I think the Grand Slams are definitely playing in favour of Novak Djokovic.
He will try to win a 21st Grand Slam title and be the first to reach this level. I think his motivation will be at its peak and he has the game to win on hard, he has proven it time and time again. To be honest, I can’t see him failing to win the US Open."
Djokovic on the verge of claiming a Calendar Grand Slam
Djokovic's coach Goran Ivanisevic recently said that Djokovic will enter "immortality" if he wins the US Open. "I am part of a team that writes history.
If Djokovic wins the US Open this year and collects all four Grand Slams in the same year, he enters immortality, the rank of Rod Laver, although it is much harder to achieve such success in the 21st century than in Laver's time when It was not easy for him, five or six years ago no one could have imagined that Novak would be in a position to make this historic feat.
I still don't know what happened there. The whole world crucified him because of six cases of the coronavirus and today we are looking forward to when there are only a thousand of them," Ivanisevic told Jutarnji.
