Young ATP ace explains the difference between him and Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic has been at the top of the international ranking for 334 weeks. Although he occupied the first place in different periods, reality shows that he has not left that location since February 3, 2020, that is, it has been 53 weeks that he leads the classification.

However, there is a remote possibility that he will stop flaunting that achievement after the US Open. Now, the only one who can storm the world ladder has a first and last name and his name is Daniil Medvedev. The Russian, who became one of the best receivers on the circuit -as we explained in a detailed analysis-, knows that he will not have an easy task, but, at the same time, he has enough level to shine in the rest of the race.

North American fast track tour. Although the current difference between Djokovic and Medvedev is 1493 points, it should be noted that the margins could narrow as of next Monday since the Serbian will not defend the title won in 2020 in Cincinnati.

However, Medvedev will submit to the same mission: he too was consecrated in the 2019 edition and, consequently, he will lose those units because the ranking freeze system is over. Despite that, he has the possibility of recovering them: he does appear in the main draw of the contest held in the State of Ohio.

Beyond a possible consecration, the gap would only be narrowed and it would still be necessary to wait for the final blow. In that sense, the main obstacle for the Russian is the 1200 points that he defends in the final of the US Open 2019, when he fell in five sets against Rafael Nadal.

Meanwhile, Nole will only yield 180 product of the fourth round of 2019 (in 2020 he had the incident of the linesman). On that occasion he retired due to an injury in a duel against Stan Wawrinka.

Djoker will be chasing the Calendar Slam

Rising star Felix Auger-Aliassime recently advanced to the pre-quarters of the Cincinnati Open 2021.

Facing Russia’s Karen Khachanov in the round of 32, the Canadian made an incredible comeback after losing the first set in the tie-breaker. The final scoreline of the match was 6(5)-7(7), 6-3, 6-4. Felix took the example of World No.1 Novak Djokovic and highlighted that the US Open 2021 holds a different value to both of them.

Djoker will be chasing the Calendar Slam and thus, his priority is to win the US Open 2021. On the other hand, Felix is currently just 21 and is yet to win an ATP title. Therefore, every single tournament is important for him- be it a Masters event or a Grand Slam.

“In Djokovic’s case when he’s trying to achieve what he’s trying to achieve, maybe, but at my age and my point of my career, every tournament is important,” added the Canadian player.
