Novak Djokovic: I'm here to get my hands on US Open trophy

20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic thought he performed much better in the US Open second round than he did in his opener at the tournament. Djokovic, ranked at No. 1 in the world, saw off Dutch Tallon Griekspoor 6-2 6-3 6-2 to reach the US Open third round.

In his opener at the tournament, Djokovic struggled a bit but in the end claimed a four-set win over rising Danish star Holger Rune. "It was definitely a better performance from my side than a couple of nights ago,” Djokovic said, per Tennishead.

“Again, great atmosphere. It’s always fun playing in front of New York fans in the night session. “You guys bring a lot of energy to us and I think we’ve said this before but we can’t take these moments for granted."

Djokovic sets his eyes on the US Open title

Djokovic, who hasn't lost a match at the Grand Slam level this year, is heavily motivated to win the US Open and capture a Calendar Grand Slam.

However, Djokovic is well aware that a number of young stars are hopng to spoil his plans at the Us Open. “The last 15 months have been very difficult for everyone on this planet," Djokovic noted. “For us in tennis, we haven’t had too many tournaments where we’ve played in front of a crowd, so it’s nice to have you back.

“It’s a great feeling being on the court. I’m as motivated as ever to do well. I’m not the only player who wants to go deep in the tournament. “Hopefully, [I’ll] get my hands on the trophy.

That’s why I’m here. I’m trying to be the best I can be every single day. Let’s see what happens”. Djokovic will be fighting against Kei Nishikori for a place in the US Open round-of-16. Djokovic enters the match as the big favorite, having recently beaten Nishikori 6-2 6-0 at the Tokyo Olympics.
