World No. 1 Novak Djokovic enjoyed playing alongside fellow compatriot Filip Krajinovic in front of a packed crowd at the Paris Masters. On Monday, Djokovic and Krajinovic started their Paris Masters doubles campaign with a 4-6 6-4 10-7 win over Alex de Minaur and Luke Saville.
Doubles matches don't usually draw lots of interest but the Parisian crowd was more than interested in seeing Djokovic in a doubles action. "I've never played in front of so many people for a doubles match, it's incredible," Djokovic said after the win, as quoted on beIN SPORTS.
Krajinovic admitted he feels "privileged" to be able to play alongside Djokovic. "It's a privilege to play with Novak", Krajinovic said. "A very good friend and my idol."
Djokovic and Krajinovic playing doubles for a reason
Djokovic and Krajinovic are set to represent Serbia at the Davis Cup Finals and they are likely preparing to play doubles at the Davis Cup Finals.
"I would like to use the next three tournaments to raise my game before the Davis Cup," Krajinovic trecently old Serbian daily newspaper Blic. “We are going there with all the best players, so our goal is to lift the trophy, just like we did in 2010.
Novak is with us, so we are surely not going there to lose. We made an agreement to play, all of us, we are eager to get that trophy." Serbia will face Austria and Germany in the group stage. Austria will be without Dominic Thiem, while Germany won't have Alexander Zverev.
"Without them, it is clear that Germany and Austria are significantly weaker, and we have our best possible line-up. The world No 1 is on our side and we are going there to win. Usually, the success with the national team boosts our individual careers as well, so we are hoping that is going to be the case again now, before the 2022 season," Krajinovic added.
