Miomir Kecmanovic, 22, dreamed of one day going to battle with Novak Djokovic and representing Serbia in the Davis Cup. As a kid, Kecmanovic witnessed Serbia win its lone Davis Cup title in 2010. Back then, world No. 1 Djokovic led Serbia to their first Davis Cup glory and now the 20-time Grand Slam champion is hoping to lead his nation to their second Davis Cup title.
Viktor Troicki is now the Serbian Davis Cup team captain, while Nenad Zimonjic retired. Kecmanovic has a great respect for Djokovic, Troicki and Zimonjic. "I watched, enjoyed, admired, as I admire them today. And even then, I wanted to be with them one day, to be part of that great team, to fight and win together.
I have worked a lot since then, I have run thousands of kilometers, but my wish has come true. The new wish is to win a new Davis Cup trophy for Serbia, and I firmly believe in that," Kecmanovic told Sport Klub.
Djokovic sets his eyes on the Davis Cup Finals title
“We are going there with all the best players, so our goal is to lift the trophy, just like we did in 2010.
Novak is with us, so we are surely not going there to lose. We made an agreement to play, all of us, we are eager to get that trophy," Filip Krajinovic said in October. Serbia will battle Austria and Germany in the group stage in Innsbruck.
Austria will be without Dominic, while Germany won't have Alexander Zverev. “Without them, it is clear that Germany and Austria are significantly weaker, and we have our best possible line-up. The world No 1 is on our side and we are going there to win.
Usually, the success with the national team boosts our individual careers as well, so we are hoping that is going to be the case again now, before the 2022 season," Krajinovic added.
