Novak Djokovic: 'I speak with Tom Brady frequently about...'

Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz defeated Novak Djokovic and Nikola Cacic by 7-6 (3), 3 6 and 7-6 (5) in a doubles match played by knife, giving Germany a 2-1 victory in their tie of the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals Group F. The result between the Germans and the Serbs set up a fascinating three-way battle in the Group to reach the quarter-finals, with Germany now with the best chances to advance as group winners after beating the group favorites.

The German team will face Austria on Sunday with the certainty that victory will give them the pass as group champions. Serbia, who are assured of at least second place, can still win the group if Austria beat Germany, although they will see Saturday's defeat as a missed opportunity to seal their place in the quarterfinals.

The Austrians, beaten 3-0 in their debut by Serbia on Friday, must beat Germany by the same result to keep hopes alive of passing as one of the best two seconds out of the six groups. The very interesting doubles match was not decided until the tie break of the third and final set.

Maintaining temperance in the most difficult moments was the key for Krawietz and Puetz to celebrate the triumph. "We know each other very well and we also get along very well off the track, so we trust each other," Krawietz said in the track interview after Germany won the titanic duel.

Team captain Michael Kohlmann added: "To beat the team that has the world number 1 is a great result. Before the tie we all thought we had a good chance. We really believed it and it paid off."

Novak Djokovic said that he discusses aspects of "training and recovery" with the seven-time Super Bowl champion, who, at 44, is believed to be amongst the fittest athletes in the world of sports.

"I speak with Tom Brady frequently about training and recovery," Djokovic said. "I make an effort to make use of the opportunity to share something with all sportsmen and sportswomen, things that aided me or hindered me, and I ask questions, especially to those who have reached the pinnacle of their sport”.

During the media interaction, Djokovic highlighted that aspect but also stressed the importance of mastering the art of composure, pointing out that such a skill is gained with experience. “I can be temperamental and emotional, so I tend to like it when one shows emotion, but on the other hand also knows how to control them and remain composed in the moments that matter," Novak Djokovic said.

"That skill is acquired through time: the more matches on the big stage, the better you handle yourself the next time you step onto the court."
