Kei Nishikori discusses game style of Novak Djokovic, top players

Kei Nishikori wants to change a bit his game and he is looking at the game style of those who are at the top of the game. Nishikori has always been a strong baseline player but as he is getting older he realized that he has to make certain adjustments to his game.

"Following Djokovic, these days players tend to focus on probability, try to avoid unforced errors and kind of play safe, hit cross court shots on defense, like Medvedev, Zverev, players who can execute that surely are absolutely dominant now," Nishikori said, per Seiadoumogera/Twitter.

"At the same time players like Alcaraz or Sinner are coming, play aggressive like Federer, there can't be perfect tennis for everybody. It's impossible to change my tennis (drastically), all I have to do is try to improve my weapons, like, play with quicker tempo than others."

Nishikori not ready to quit

Nishikori, 31, has been plagued by injuries over the last few years but he is not ready to walk away from the game. "I've never wanted to stop playing though I'm always feeling like it's tough, yeah I often feel it's tough, I'm not in the mood, I hate it...

but I've been somehow escaping," Nishikori said. Nishikori admitted being Injury-prone often gets him in a depressed mood. "I usually get deeply depressed for a while, at the moment that I get injured or I'm told about surgery, but after that I somehow come back because I still have motivation and passion for playing tennis again," Nishikori admitted.

Also, Nishikori shared advice to juniors. "Enjoy it, you'll realize how important it is to enjoy as you get older. You might want to quit at some point, but after getting though that you can be filled with happiness (of playing). It would be nice to learn how to overcome tough times while you're young," Nishikori advised.
