Australian tennis star Alex de Minaur thinks everyone would love to see Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open. Djokovic, a record nine-time Australian Open champion, is reportedly set to skip the ATP Cup. Djokovic is refusing to reveal his vaccination status and there is a real chance he decides to skip the Australian Open.
"Who knows. I'm pretty sure everyone would love to see him play. You know, it's his decision, we will see," de Minaur told 9News Melbourne, whe asked about the Djokovic situation.
Djokovic hasn't given any clear answers on Australia
After Serbia's loss at the Davis Cup Finals, Djokovic refused to give anything to reporters.
"I understand you want some answers on where I start the season, how I start it. I'm really, really tired from this season and this whole year, so I just prefer sticking to the family quality time, rehab mode, then let's see what the future brings," Djokovic said..
"You will be informed. I know what you want. I'm not going to give you an answer tonight. I know what you want to ask me. But you will be informed. That's all I can tell you. I cannot give you any date. Obviously Australia is around the corner, so you will know very soon."
Just days after the Davis Cup Finals, Djokovic's name appeared on the ATP Cup and Australian Open entries. After Djokovic signed up for the ATP Cup and Australian Open, many saw that as a great indication that Djokovic was coming to Australia.
One of those who was delighted to see Djokovic on the entries was Australian tennis legend Todd Woodbridge. "He had the choice to enter or not enter so he's put his name on the entry list and that means you've got to believe that he's coming all the way through the summer," Woodbridge said. It remains to be seen if Djokovic will decide to play the Australian Open.
