Nikola Pilic: They should feel ashamed for treating Novak Djokovic like criminal

1973 French Open runner-up Nikola Pilic blasted the Australian authorities over their treatment of Novak Djokovic. After landing in Australia, Djokovic's visa was cancelled and he was placed in detention. Djokovic won his appeal in court as the judge reinstated his visa.

On Friday, Immigration Minister Alex Hawke exercised his powers to revoke the visa of Djokovic. "They could have told Novak that he can't play. The tournament director and the doctors gave him the green light and after landing in Australia he was treated like a criminal.

Novak didn't deserve it and they should feel ashamed," Pilic told TANJUG.

Pilic: Not playing the AO not the end of the world for Djokovic

"People do not understand what it means to be a world champion, what kind of strength, will and morale is needed," Pilic added.

"It's not the end of the world if he doesn't play the Australian Open … he will play at other tournaments." On Friday, Immigration Minister Hawke announced his decision to cancel the visa of Djokovic. "Today I exercised my power under section 133C(3) of the Migration Act to cancel the visa held by Mr Novak Djokovic on health and good order grounds, on the basis that it was in the public interest to do so," Hawke said in a statement on Friday.

"This decision followed orders by the Federal Circuit and Family Court on 10 January 2022, quashing a prior cancellation decision on procedural fairness grounds. "In making this decision, I carefully considered information provided to me by the Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Border For.

and Mr Djokovic. "The Morrison Government is firmly committed to protecting Australia's borders, particularly in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. "I thank the officers of the Department of Horne Affairs and the Australian Border Force who work every day to serve Australia's interests in increasingly challenging operational environments."
