Patrick Mouratoglou is looking forward to seeing how will Novak Djokovic start his clay season as a strong start would give the Serb the early lead over Rafael Nadal. Djokovic is set to kick off his clay season next week in Monte Carlo, while Nadal is set to miss the beginning of the clay season.
Djokovic has played in only one tournament so far this season but he gets to start the clay season on time. On the other side, Nadal is expected to miss at least the Monte Carlo Masters and Barcelona Open. "So what's so exciting? Is Novak going to be able to win everything until Rafa comes back from his injury.
That would be a game changer because then you would have Novak with full, full confidence back. But it's not going to be that easy because when you don't play matches like he did the last month. The little he played, he lost early.
I mean, it's not easy, even for Novak. For anyone it's not easy. So, this is a key. What is going to happen in the next weeks with Novak will give us a taste of the chances of Novak and Rafa in Roland Garros, which as I said, is a key.
And there can be a joker, who cen be maybe Alcaraz, maybe Stefanos, maybe someone else, we will see," Mouratoglou said in a clip posted on his Instagram account.
Djokovic beat Nadal at the French Open last year
Last year, Nadal managed to just for the second time in his career defeat Nadal at Roland Garros.
Djokovic, who lifted his first French Open title in 2016 after beating Andy Murray in the final, defeated Nadal in last year's French Open semifinal. It was Djokovic's second win over Nadal at the French Open as he also beat the Spaniard when they met at Roland Garros in 2015.
Nadal won a record 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and Djokovic will be highly motivated to win the French Open.
