Holger Rune puts Novak Djokovic ahead of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal in this aspect

Holger Rune, 18, spoke extremely highly of Novak Djokovic during a press conference in Belgrade as he gave credit to the Serb for being willing to help young players with his advice. Rune, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No.

72 in the world, got a chance to play Djokovic in the US Open first round last year. Rune fought well as he won a set before Djokovic sealed a four-set victory at Flushing Meadows. When it comes to giving advice to young players, Djokovic is ahead of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, says Rune.

“Novak is really great. We’ve had a chance to practice in Monaco together before that match in New York. He gave me a lot of good advice, first of all when it comes to mental toughness, how to keep my cool at the court at decisive moments and play my own game," Rune said.

When we had an opportunity to officially play against each other, it was a bit different. Generally speaking, when it comes to the Big Three, he is the best when it comes to young players and his willingness to give advice.

I know he kicked my ass in that match but his tips are priceless."

Rune makes a winning start in Belgrade

On Monday, Rune defeated Cristian Garin 6-3 6-1 in the Belgrade first round. “I feel good although I’ve played a demanding match.

I played seriously and my tactic against Garin has been clear from the start. Maybe some of his shots caught me off guard but I am satisfied with the result,” Holger Rune explained. Rune plays next either Dusan Lajovic or Taro Daniel.

“I believe in myself and I play aggressively all the time. This is the time for me to play and join the best. I am looking forward to future matches. I am very excited. Lajović or Đere are my next rivals, we have to wait and see who wins but anyhow, I’m looking forward to everything in Belgrade”.
