Holger Rune: It was very inspiring to share court with Novak Djokovic in real match

Rising Danish star Holger Rune said it was inspiring to be able to meet 20-time Grand Slam champion in a real competitive match. Rune, 18, practiced with world No. 1 Djokovic in Monte Carlo before the two met in an official match at the US Open.

Rune performed extremely well in his first match against Djokovic as he even managed to take a set off the 20-time Grand Slam champion. Unfortunately for Rune, he was left out of energy after winning a tight second set as Djokovic won 6-1 6-7 (5) 6-2 6-1.

"What was it like to face Djokovic at the US Open last year? How was his tennis different than others you have faced in the past?" a fan asked Rune. Rune replied: "For me @DjokerNole is so complete as an athlete and tennis player so it was very inspiring to share court with him not just for practice but a real match."

Rune speaks highly of Djokovic

According to Rune, Djokovic is the best among the Big Three when it comes to giving youngsters advice.

“Novak is really great. We’ve had a chance to practice in Monaco together before that match in New York. He gave me a lot of good advice, first of all when it comes to mental toughness, how to keep my cool at the court at decisive moments and play my own game," Rune said.

"When we had an opportunity to officially play against each other, it was a bit different. Generally speaking, when it comes to the Big Three, he is the best when it comes to young players and his willingness to give advice.

I know he kicked my ass in that match but his tips are priceless." Rune, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 72 in the world, is one of the most promising players on the tour and he is hoping to one day become a Grand Slam champion.
