Bill Gates: I really admire Novak Djokovic but wish his vaccine views were different

Microfosoft co-founder Bill Gates says he admires Novak Djokovic but adds he wishes the Serb's vaccine views were different. Djokovic, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, wasn't allowed to participate at the Australian Open and the Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami because of his vaccine status.

Djokovic, ranked at No. 1 in the world, confirmed earlier this year that he is willing to skip tournaments that introduce mandatory vaccination. "Being vaccinated helps the community that you're in. They're not perfect at blocking infection, but they do reduce infection, and so it is unfortunate that someone's health concerns are so extreme that they cannot participate in that community protection," Gates said, as quoted on Sportskeeda.

"If they're an insipational and trusted person, you know, then, they're spreading that, it just makes it tougher to get the vaccination levels that we really need. So, I admire him in a lot of ways, but I wish his views on vaccine weren't that way."

Why Djokovic doesn't want to get vaccinated?

Earlier this year, Djokovic claimed that he absolutely has nothing against the vaccine but he just wants the freedom of choice.

Also, Djokovic suggested he doesn't want to take the vaccine because he is not sure what affect it could have on his body. “As an elite athlete, I want to triple-check everything that enters my body. If something changes for 0.5% in my body, I feel it.

I am just cautious before making any decisions, I am taking my time and keeping my mind open. I will live with the consequences," Djokovic said. “I stand for choice and the autonomy of every individual, that every person has the right to decide in the matter of their health.

I don’t like being labelled and put in the same category with certain initiatives or movements, I never said I support any of those. I have always tried to respect everybody’s choices, I hope that people can respect mine as well”.
