Alize Cornet compares Iga Swiatek to Novak Djokovic ahead of Wimbledon meeting

French tennis star Alize Cornet says Iga Swiatek reminds her a bit of Novak Djokovic with her movement on the court as she is aiming to shock the Pole at Wimbledon. 37th-ranked Cornet is set to take on first-seeded Swiatek in the Wimbledon third round and she is hoping to do something that hasn't been done since February - to beat the Pole.

"I don't know 'her ball' yet, I am yet to discover it, but I think she is very strong. It emphasizes the intensity of the game and the physical is crazy. In terms of the way she moves and glides on the court, she reminds me a bit of Novak Djokovic," Cornet said, per Sportskeeda.

Going into the match, Cornet underlined Swiatek's first serve is a big weapon and suggested she will have to target the Pole's second serve. "She hits the ball very early with great power, but this is not the classic flat 'boom, boom.'

She can do anything," Cornet said. "She serves very well with the first service, but maybe there is something to catch up in the second." Swiatek has won her last 37 matches but she was pushed into a three-setter by lucky loser Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove in the second round.

After surviving the Pattinama Kerkhove scare, Swiatek admitted grass is a tricky surface for her. "For sure my confidence, I build it during this season," Swiatek said after the win. "It's getting better and better on every tournament.

I would say the grass is pretty tricky for me, I'm not going to lie. I guess you can see that I'm not playing maybe as efficiently as on other surfaces. Basically my confidence is getting better overall. But this tournament is tricky and I'm still feeling out how to play the best game here." It remains to be seen if Cornet can upset Swiatek and reach the Wimbledon last-16.
